7 Ways to Use Sequins in Scrapbooking
If you haven't seen them already, we carry 4 amazing wood grain sequin colors-dark walnut, dark wood, light wood, and grey wood. In addition to these wood grain sequins, we also recently started stocking custom sequins mixes to match every kit. We know how beautiful and enticing sequin mixes can be, such eye candy. But we want you to use them too!!!
Without further ado, here are 7 ways to use those beautiful sequin mixes on your layouts...
1-Sprinkle across the background.
One "quick" way to use sequins on your layouts is to make them look as if they are sprinkled across the background. To master this look, I try to randomly place the sequins, I try NOT to make a pattern, sometimes I literally sprinkle a few, then make sure they are all flipped right side up before gluing them down.
2-Use sequins in combination with mist/stamping/enamel dots/mixed media.
This is very similar to sprinkling them across the background, but in this case, you will also mix in a few other items. Sequins look good sprinkled with mist splatters, enamel dots, Nuvo Drop dots, buttons, flatback pearls, and other small items. I try to randomly lay these out as well, before adhering. I try not to make a pattern with any of the pieces, it looks a little more organic this way.
3-Make a frame, shape, or design with the sequins.
To add a little extra pop on your layout, you can use sequins to create a frame or a shape on the page. For this layout, I decided to make this photo stand out by adding a sequin frame to it. I used glue to adhere each piece.
4-Make a shaker filled with sequins.
There are many tutorials on you tube for making shakers with sequins, transparency (or old packaging), and dimensional adhesive. You can make shakers all kinds of sizes and shapes. Here is an example of a smaller size shaker, and the second and third photos show a super-size shaker. Another option, similar to a shaker is to fill a pocket page with sequins and seal it with heat, or a sewing machine.
5-Stitch sequins to your layout.
You can stitch sequins to your layouts using a sewing machine, or by hand. For this layout, I glued each piece to the layout first. After the glue was dry I s-l-o-w-l-y stitched right over the sequins on the sewing machine.
To create these piles of sequins, I put a substantial sized glob of Eileen's Tacky Glue exactly where I wanted the piles to be. I smoothed the glue out a bit with my finger, then dumped the sequins mix on the wet glue. I didn't pick up my layout until the glue was dry. Once the glue dried, I tapped off the excess sequins that didn't adhere. I did have to add 2 more sequins back to the top of the pile with a little extra glue to get just the right amount.
7-Use sequins to embellish a die cut or other embellishment.
You can embellish die cuts, stickers, patterned paper, flowers, just about any other embellishment with sequins. For the following layout, I added a couple of layered sequins on each of the ornament stickers. Just a little something to add some interest.
In conclusion, although they are beautiful, sequins shouldn't just sit all pretty in their little jars! Get those babies out and use them on your next layout. The are so many ways to use them. I liked the string layout and I can actually do that! What type of glue would you recommend? Old school tacky or one of those pens?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration.
I use both Tacky Glue and Glossy Accents. I like Tacky Glue the best.
DeleteThanks! Nice to hear from the expert what works. That tacky glue is easy to use.
