{You Rock} Using the Graffiti Art Page Kit
Hello, crafty friends! It's Miss. Carrie with a mixed-media project that I created for the February Challenge. This layout was assembled using components from the new Graffiti Art page kit along with a mix of leftover ephemera from previous kits. Graffiti Art includes black acrylic paint and two shimmerz which makes it perfect for a mixed media design.
I used the two shimmerz from the kit with a few others that I had in my collection to create a beautiful rainbow effect in the background. After adding the shimmery goodness to the layout, I splattered the page with black paint and added some grid lines with a stencil and weathered wood ink.
While everything was drying, I created the heart border with my Cricut machine and assembled it to create a faux shaker element. I used the printshop typeset paper for the background and adhered graffiti art sequins in place.
Behind the photo, I placed two of the filmstrip pieces that I stitched together. I used a sewing machine to create the zig-zag pattern. It was a little tricky at first because the machine didn't want to grasp the acetate. A denim needle and some removable paper backing should help the process go smoother.
From there, it was about choosing components from all my leftover kits to create a color-blocking effect. Can you guess which kits some of the items are from?
In the green and blue strips, I added pattern paper strips from the Graffiti Art kit, ephemera from the Brilliance kit, and a few pieces from my craft stash. I was also able to use up a little bit of my washi tape below the photo.
To give the page a cohesive feel, I searched through my 49 & Market packs for items to add to the pink, peach, and yellow strips. From the Auburn Autumn kit, I added a few yellow banners next to the film strips.
In the Naturalist kit, I found the washi tape and some lovely coral bits that matched beautifully. Once the larger pieces of ephemera were in place, I stuck on a few puffy stickers from my stash and added some additional stitching to the layout.
The title was the last element I added. At first, I wanted to color this with a pink shimmer to go with the color blocking, but it didn't stand out as well as I had hoped, so I painted it with acrylic paint. The black stands out so much better among all the pastels and I love how it looks.
Projects like this are a great way to use all those leftover bits from your NJFB kits. If you are interested, I have a process video for this page which you can view on my YouTube channel.
I hope that today's project inspired you and gave you a few ideas for using this new collection.
